In memory of Bear

Mathew Joseph Drum, 33, was born on Jan. 28, 1970, and died suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003. Due to his size and stature, Mathew was known to his friends by the nickname, "Bear".

Mathew was a talented musician who took great pride in writing, playing and singing his own music. Many of the songs he wrote and performed over the years told the story of his life and experiences.

Mathew also took pride in his trade; he was a stonemason whose beautiful work can be seen at various locations throughout Fayette County.

Mathew is survived by his mother and stepfather, with whom he made his home, Linda and Don Orlando. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Christine Rusinack and her husband, Mark, who are the parents of Mathew''s nieces, Olivia and Grace and nephew, Mark; his sweet grandmother, Margaret Sikora; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous dear friends, whom he treasured.

Preceding him in death were his father, Joseph Drum in February of 2002, and his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., At Sylvan Heights Cemetery, A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A private memorial service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Mathew''s memory.

Friends and Foe

by The Frames

turning with the listless
staying close behind
the arms that once held you
have receded
over time

and the little love i had
for all my friends and foe
and the little lines we''ve drawn between us all have
taken hold

in the early morning walking
and the pressure in the night
the walls that held you with us
have fallen
out of sight

and the little love i had
for all my friends and foe
and the little lines we''ve drawn between us all have
taken hold

and the little love i had
for all the friends i know
and the little town we got to share was worth it
after all

now we work it out in silence
the subplot to the end
and it''s falling out of favor
i''ve seen it
where i am

and the little love i had
for all my friends and foe
and the little lines we''ve drawn between us all have
taken hold

and the little love i had
for all the friends i know
and the little town we got to share was worth it
after all

Still missing you after two years, Bear

CD CollectionIn lieu of a cd collection which we still hope to put out, check the downloads section for some new songs from an old Coal Town Karma concert from 1995.

Go to downloads

I also updated the first CTK studio demo mp3s with remixes which bring out a little more ambience.

News from Erin about Union Skatepark...in memory of Bear

Random

Just thought I would update everyone about the skatepark! Well, the city of Uniontown didn't seem to be interested in putting a skatepark here, so we decided to go about it ourselves. We recently purchased the old Kay's Fruniture Warehouse(by the Uniontown Library) and are building an indoor skatepark. My shop, Central Skate Shop will also be located there too.

The missing tape!
Tuesday, July 06 @ 00:56:12 EDT by admin (189 reads)
CD CollectionPaula found a random CTK tape in her house and mailed it to me. Turns out to be the missing tape. Thanks, Paula! It's got great versions of several songs which appear on no other tapes, and it's great quality for a tape, so I'm pretty excited. I am busy working on getting the hiss out of these old tapes and preparing them for a cd collection.

If you're out there and want to see a CD collection come out some day for our man Bear, vote for this article!

What's going on
Saturday, April 03 @ 15:51:57 EST by admin (208 reads)
RandomHi everyone,

It's five months later. Every time I turn around I can see or hear Bear. Thinking of Uniontown without him seems bizarre. It still just seems impossible.

There are a few new photos to be scanned and placed in the photo gallery, so keep checking back.

I'm still trying to resample some of the old live music from cassette. Please let us know if you happen to find anything out there that we can put on the memorial CD. There's a live tape from the Highland House still missing which has a couple songs which are not on any other tapes. I'd love to find them.

Hope everyone's OK.

Thank you from Mary Bires

RandomMy name is Mary Bires. I am Mathews aunt. I would just like to thank you for the beautiful eulogy for Matt. My family is so overwhelmed by how many friends Matt has. We truly do miss him. The website is just wonderful. I know this does help to comfort my sister Linda and Christine.

We put a cross up today where the accident occurred. It was a very hard thing to do. Please pass on that Matts family is truly grateful and appreciative for everything.

Thanks Again,
Mary Bires
